Rangers smashed Kilmarnock 5-0 on Wednesday night at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard has told Rangers’ official Twitter account that he believes his side won the Ibrox support back over with their 5-0 drubbing of Kilmarnock – after a disappointing 0-0 draw with St. Johnstone on Saturday.
Rangers suffered a blow in their bid to keep up with Old Firm rivals Celtic last weekend, as they failed to overcome Tommy Wright’s side at Ibrox – drawing 0-0, with top scorer Alfredo Morelos missing.
The Colombia international returned on Wednesday night in the Scottish Cup fifth-round replay, and he put Steve Clarke’s side to the sword. He scored four of the five goals, while Andy Halliday also netted.
Fans were very disgruntled on Saturday as Celtic earned a late win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, stretching their lead at the top to eight points. But Gerrard believes his side won the fans back over on Wednesday night.
“Magnificent turn out on a Wednesday night,” Gerrard said. “Wet, windy, cold, they pay good money to support the team. The pleasing thing for me tonight was that they got rewarded by the players.
“The players got the supporters on side because it could have been a difficult night. Credit to the players, they won the fans back over. The fans certainly deserved a better performance, and they got it.”
Morelos opened the scoring by tapping home a superb Daniel Candeias cross, before heading home an even better cross from the Portuguese winger after Killie went down to 10 men following Daniel Bachmann’s red card.
Andy Halliday made it three after a good cross from Ryan Kent, before Morelos capitalised on two lapses in possession from Killie to take his tally on the night to four – and 27 in all competitions this season.
Rangers are next in action on Sunday, as they travel to Martin Canning’s Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership.
