The Rangers hitman has been in superb form so far this season.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard spoke to reporters ahead of his side’s huge clash with Celtic at Ibrox tomorrow, and delivered his biggest hint yet that Alfredo Morelos will stay at the club, whilst admitting that he expects to receive bids for the striker in January, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The Colombian has been in excellent form this season, scoring an impressive 20 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions, and Gerrard will surely be desperate to keep hold of the striker next month.
Rangers currently sit in second spot in the Scottish Premiership table, thee points adrift of Celtic, and they could actually head into the winter break top of the pile, but only if they beat Brendan Rodgers side by a bargain of at least four goals.
If they are to have any chance whatsoever of doing just that, they will need Morelos to be firing on all cylinders.
Perhaps more importantly, however, the 22-year-old will need to maintain his best form between now and May, if he stays at Ibrox of course.
Gerrard dropped a hint that Morelos will be staying at Rangers, when speaking to reporters today, as quoted by Sky Sports:
“I’m expecting bids, yeah. He’s a top player, he’s scored 20 goals before the turn of the year. I expect him to go on and achieve 30. I’d be more surprised if there’s no bids to be honest.”
If Rangers are to push Celtic all the way in the race for the league title this season, it is imperative that they keep hold of Morelos.
Selling him would send out totally the wrong message, and would surely all bu end the Gers’ hopes of winning the league.
