Eros Grezda endured a forgettable full debut for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers on Saturday.

Eros Grezda of Rangers shoots at goal during the UEFA Europa League Group G match between Rangers and Spartak Moscow at Ibrox Stadium on October 25, 2018 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Steven Gerrard has told Sky Sports he is confident that under-fire Rangers winger Eros Grezda will improve.

The Rangers boss withdrew Grezda after 55 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 win at St Mirren, with both goals coming after the Bosnian was subbed.

It was the 23-year-old’s full Premiership debut but a lot of fans of the Ibrox club tore into him on Twitter afterwards for what they felt was a sub-par showing.

Grezda, who hit the post shortly before his withdrawal, cost Rangers a cool £2 million, but a lack of fitness and form means that he hasn’t really got going as of yet.

But Gerrard remains very confident that supporters will see the best of him soon.

“I thought he grew into the game,” Gerrard told Sky Sports. “His best moments were probably the last five minutes he had.

“He hit the post and had he scored it would have helped him a lot. He’s had a bad injury and a tough time getting back. He will get better.”

Considering he cost £2 million, there is quite a lot of pressure on Grezda and it can be very difficult to succeed in the long term when you endure a bad start. Just ask Carlos Pena, who cost £2.7 million in the summer of 2017, and is now considered one of the biggest Ibrox flops recent memory.

There is little evidence to suggest that Grezda could go the same way, but the sooner he starts repaying his transfer fee, the easier it will be to win the fans over.
