Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly hoping to bring Ryan Kent back to Ibrox next season.
In comments reported by the Daily Record, Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Rangers have made an offer for Ryan Kent, and are hopeful about their chances of signing the winger for a second time.
Kent’s loan spell at Ibrox has come to an end after the Gers concluded their Scottish Premiership season with a 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock. He has been superb for much of the year, particularly in the last three Old Firm games.
It is not surprising therefore, that Rangers appear to be keen to bring the youngster back next season. But it seems that the Light Blues could be underdogs in the race to sign Kent, with the Daily Record reporting that his asking price could be anything between £5 million and £12 million.
But Gerrard’s comments following the loss at Rugby Park have hinted that he is a lot more optimistic about Rangers’ chances of signing Kent again this summer.
“We’re doing everything we can. We’re speaking to Liverpool, we’re in touch with Ryan’s representatives, we’ve made an offer and we’re hopeful but there’s nothing to say on it to confirm it, but for our supporters what I can do is guarantee we’re doing everything we can to try and get him in,” he said, as reported by the Record.
“We’ve got irons in the fire with numerous players but all I can say is watch this space.”
It would be a big boost for Rangers if they could sign Kent in some capacity. His return of six goals and four assists in the Scottish Premiership is not overly impressive given his ability, but his spell at Ibrox looks set to go down as a turning point in his career.
And, as mentioned, those performances in the various Old Firm games highlight what a difference he could make if he sticks around. He is a potential game-changer, and signing him for next season would be an outstanding piece of business from Rangers.
