Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told Sky Sports that he has good news on the transfer front, with Joe Worrall signing a deal to arrive at Ibrox.

The Gers endured a tough evening in Russia, drawing 1-1 with Ufa in the Europa League to advance into the group stages of the competition, but that doesn’t quite tell the whole story.

After a 1-0 win at Ibrox in the first leg last week, Rangers took the lead in Russia as Ovie Ejaria scored a fine goal, only for Alfredo Morelos to be sent off for dissent after kicking the ball away.

Dmitri Sysuev pulled Ufa level on the night, and Jon Flanagan was then sent off with 25 minutes to play, leaving Rangers to see out the game with just nine men on the field.

They did that admirably, and Rangers are now into the group stage – and boss Gerrard provided more good news for Gers fans after the final whistle.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Gerrard revealed that during the game, he believes Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal at Ibrox.

“In terms of Joe, it’s good news,” said Gerrard. “As we were playing, he should’ve signed a deal to be a Rangers player for a year,” he added.

Worrall, 21, has dropped down the Forest pecking order this summer after Michael Dawson and Michael Hefele arrived to boost Aitor Karanka’s defensive options, and Rangers have now swooped.

The England under-21 international will arrive in time to face Celtic on Sunday, though he is unlikely to start, and appears set to start out as cover for Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
