The Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has been one of Steven Gerrard’s most consistent performers since he took the reins at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard has verified recent reports that Rangers have offered a new contract to Ryan Jack.
Speaking via Rangers’ official Youtube channel on Friday, Gerrard stressed that Jack is a ‘huge’ player for his side.
And the Rangers manager is hopeful that the midfielder, who is due to undergo a scan on the injury that forced him off after 65 minutes of the Gers’ Europa League defeat to BSC Young Boys on Thursday, will soon commit his future to the club.
Confirming that Jack will miss Rangers’ visit of Hamilton Academical on Sunday, Gerrard said: “Ryan sets the example he sets the standard every day in training. More often then not he’s the strongest trainer. He covers the most distance. Every single drill he gives his full attention. He’s a winner, he takes his training into games and he’s been one of my (most) consistent players since I walked through the door.
“So we’re absolutely delighted with him. We’ve made him a contract offer that we’re hoping will progress and get signed up pretty soon. And we’ve got our fingers crossed for this scan because he’s very, very important for me.”
Gerrard went on to insist that he has no concerns over Jack’s ongoing knee issue, stressing it is managed well by both player and club.
But the Liverpudlian suggested that he may have to ‘pull him out from time to time’, given his tendency to ‘run himself into the ground’.
Jack signed a new two-and-a-half year contract at Rangers as recently as December last year.
