Glasgow Rangers winger Jamie Murphy was in action for Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox on Sunday.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard
Gerrard praised Murphy following the 5-0 win for Rangers in their Scottish Premiership game against Hamilton Academical at Ibrox on Sunday.
The 30-year-old winger came on as a substitute in the 64th minute and played quite well for the Gers.
It was the Scotland international winger’s first appearance for the Rangers first team in 14 months.
Rangers manager Gerrard was pleased with Murphy, and has said that the winger now needs to keep pushing to make himself a regular in the first team.
Gerrard told Rangers’ official website: “It’s not just about getting him minutes – I think he deserves to be in the 18 today as he has been pushing in training and looking stronger.
“I think his strength is coming back in his legs now after a long lay-off. He deserved the opportunity – he was really close to getting on the scoresheet as well, but unfortunately he was offside.
“Jamie must keep pushing now – keep pushing and, as a squad, it is very difficult to pick 18 now because of the quality we have got and people coming back from injury. People need to work ever-so hard to stay in the team and stay in the 18.”

Important player for Rangers
Murphy is a very good winger, and the Scotland international will be an important player for Rangers in the coming weeks and months.
With the Gers challenging for the Scottish Premiership title and also aiming to progress to the knockout round of the Europa League, they will need a big squad.
Murphy will get his chance this season, and he needs to make the most of it.
