Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers signed the 21-year-old on loan from the Italian outfit this summer.

Umar Sadiq of Rangers is seen during the Pre-Season Friendly match between Rangers and Wigan Athletic at Ibrox Stadium on July 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that Roma are monitoring Umar Sadiq’s progress in Glasgow.

The Nigeria striker joined Rangers on a season-long loan from the Italian giants earlier this summer.

The 21-year-old has yet to score for the Gers, but the towering forward has shown glimpses of his potential at times.

Sadiq is one of four players who Gerrard has signed on loan this summer – along with Liverpool duo Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria – and the legendary Reds midfielder says that he guarantees the players’ parent clubs that they will be cared for at Rangers.

He told Rangers’ YouTube channel: “We’re in touch with Liverpool all the time. Anyone we’ve got in on loan here. We had Roma in this morning to speak about Sadiq.

“We make that promise and guarantee to teams if we’re loaning their players, we treat them like they’re our own. First and foremost we take the individual and try and help them grow and develop.”

Gerrard’s acquisition of Kyle Lafferty might be slightly ominous for Sadiq, who is now probably the Blues’ third-choice striker, behind the former Hearts man and Alfredo Morelos.

Nevertheless, the young hitman – who earns £6,000 per week (£310,000 per year) with the Italian club [Calciomercato] – offers something a little different to Lafferty, despite being a similar height, and so long as he brings an alternative threat then the Rangers boss has the option of using him.
