Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told the club’s official website that he is not concerned about the Ibrox club going above Kilmarnock and Celtic to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

The Gers won 1-0 against Hamilton Academical at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon, thanks to Daniel Candeias’s goal as early as the third minute.

The result at Ibrox means that Rangers are now at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with 34 points from 17 matches.

Gerrard’s side are level on points with second-placed Kilmarnock – who have played 18 games – and a point clear of bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have played 16 matches and are currently third in the standings.

Rangers manager Gerrard, though, does not seem to be too bothered by his side going top.

Gerrard told Rangers’ official website regarding the Gers going top: “I’m not interested in being top of the league, we were top of the league against Hearts and then for eight days we have suffered as a team.

“So I am happy we have won and I am happy with the clean sheet but we need to improve.”

Sensible stance

While it must be great for Rangers fans that they are the current leaders, it must be noted that Celtic have played a fewer game than the Gers.

Gerrard is right in not getting carried away, especially as Rangers will face Celtic later this month.
