Ally McCoist has said on BT Sport 3 (10:20pm, October 21, 2021) that he was pleased to hear Rangers manager Steven Gerrard dismiss speculation linking him with Newcastle United.
What’s the story?
Following the 2-0 win against Brondby IF in the Europa League last night, Rangers manager Gerrard was asked about his future.
The former Liverpool midfielder is reportedly a managerial candidate for Newcastle.
The Northern Echo have reported that Gerrard is being considered by Newcastle’s new owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
The report has even claimed that Gerrard, 41, is interested in taking the managerial role at St. James’ Park.

When asked on BT Sport 3 (10:20pm, October 21, 2021) about his future, Gerrard said: “Do I look happy? Do I look settled? Don’t ask me silly questions then.”
Rangers legend McCoist was following the match for BT Sports, he was pleased with the comments from Gerrard – who earns £210,000 per month as salary at Rangers, according to Sportekz.
McCoist said: “That was good to hear at the end, I have to say.”
Relief for Rangers fans
Now, in our view, Gerrard was never going to leave Rangers for Newcastle now.
Okay, a move is still possible in the summer of 2022, but, no, not now.
And we do not think that PIF will wait until the end of the season to appoint a permanent successor to Steve Bruce.

Gerrard’s comments last night will come as a relief to Rangers fans.
Rangers are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title for the second season in a row.
The Gers are also looking to progress into the latter stages of the Europa League this season.
