Glasgow Rangers’ youngsters took on their Liverpool counterparts at Ibrox, and Reds boss Steven Gerrard has spoken about the Scottish Premiership side.
The Reds ran out 4-1 winners last week, with Adam Lewis, Bobby Adekanye, Liam Millar and Rafa Camacho all scoring for the visitors from Merseyside, while Matthew Shields responded for Rangers.
It was a difficult afternoon for the Light Blues, with coach Graeme Murty and a number of his regular players all being involved in the first-team following Pedro Caixinha’s departure – leaving Craig Mulholland and Billy Kirkwood in charge of the Scottish Premiership side’s youngsters.
And after the contest, Gerrard explained that there was only ever going to be one answer when he was asked to bring his side up to Ibrox for the game after recalling his previous visit to the ground.
“I remember winning the game, quite comfortable in a pre-season friendly under Rafa Benitez,” he told the club’s official YouTube channel when asked about his last visit.
“I’ll never forget when I’m invited to Ibrox, it’s an iconic stadium. I’ve got a lot of respect for this football club and it’s history and tradition – and that’s the reason why we took the invitation up. I had to take the opportunity to bring my team up to experience playing in front of that stadium, just being in the surroundings, in the dressing room – it’s a wonderful place.”
Rangers will be hoping that those comments are seen by any managerial target they go after in the near future, as while their form has been under-par this term, there is no question that it could be a game-changing job opportunity for almost any manager.
