Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are due to take on Aberdeen later this evening.

Steven Gerrard, Manager of Rangers looks on prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Livingston and Rangers at Tony Macaroni Arena on January 27, 2019 in Livingston, United Kingdom.

Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted to the Scotsman that he didn’t realise how fierce the rivalry between his side and Aberdeen was.

Rangers are set to travel to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen later this evening, and Gerrard knows that a hostile atmosphere awaits his team.

Rangers have already lost twice to Aberdeen so far this season, and Gerrard is now looking to ensure that record looks better.

“We don’t feel as if we’ve maybe had the results we deserved against Aberdeen,” Gerrard said.

“Wednesday night at Pittodrie is another chance to try and put that right. We know where we have gone wrong and what we need to put right.

“It’s a great fixture for the players. The rivalry between Rangers and Aberdeen is bigger than I realised before I came to the club. Now I totally get it and understand it. I’ve been educated as to what it’s about. Obviously nothing will ever compare to the Old Firm rivalry, but Aberdeen is probably next in line for Rangers.”

Rangers are under pressure to pick up a victory this evening, as a defeat would be disastrous to their title hopes.

Rangers are already six points behind Celtic, so another defeat may spell curtains for Gerrard’s side in the title race.

Rangers would slip behind Aberdeen and down to third, if they are beaten this evening.

However, a Rangers victory could see them close the gap on Celtic at the top of the table, and put distance between themselves and the rest of the division.
