Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told BBC Sport that Scott Arfield will miss this weekend’s clash with rivals Celtic.
The Gers beat St Mirren 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon, with Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos on the scoresheet in a comfortable win.
Rangers sit 16 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, though Celtic do have three games in hand on them.
This weekend, the two Old Firm rivals meet at Ibrox for a huge game, as Rangers will know they move another step closer to sealing the title with a win.
They have though suffered a blow ahead of the game, as midfielder Arfield is set to miss the game through injury.
Arfield picked up an ankle injury against Hibernian on Boxing Day, and wasn’t in the squad t to face St Mirren on Wednesday.
Gerrard was asked about the situation with the Canadian international, and he suggested that Arfield will be out for the next two or three Rangers games.
Gerrard added that he couldn’t put an exact time on Arfield’s return, but he certainly won’t be facing Celtic this weekend.
“He will certainly miss the next two or three fixtures,” said Gerrard. “But, in terms of the exact date or time, it’s very difficult right now.”
“The scan came back and we are just waiting on a few more opinions on it. We’ve had one opinion on it and he will obviously be missing in the short term,” he added.
