Glasgow Rangers face a crucial summer after an encouraging season at Ibrox.

Rangers vies with Oliver manager Steven Gerrard is seen during the Ladbrokes Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 31, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that there are certainly some players within his squad who are now playing for their future at Ibrox during the remaining six games of the season.

The Gers have enjoyed an encouraging campaign, but it looks set to end without silverware. There are plenty of positives to be taken, but a lot of work to be done over the summer as the Light Blues look to close the gap to Celtic.

And ahead of the final batch of fixtures this term, Gerrard confirmed that a number of players now need to prove that they are good enough to remain in his plans for next season – but insisted that that would be the case regardless of where they were in the table.

“100 percent,” he told Rangers’ official YouTube channel when asked if some are playing for their Ibrox futures.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard arrives ahead of the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Hibernian and Rangers at Easter Road on March 08, 2019 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

“And that won’t change because we are at a club where complacency’s not accepted. People who drop their standards are not accepted. Or people who get comfortable. Not just because of the situation we’re in. If we were in a title race now, if we were ready for a semi-final or things were a lot rosier than they are, that would still be the case.”

It has been a better season for Rangers. However, they appear to have run out of steam during the latter stages of the campaign after a lengthy run right to the brink of qualifying for the Europa League knockout rounds earlier in the year.

Some of Gerrard’s signings have been inspired, but there have also been some that either need to step up or be moved on during the summer as they have gone off the boil too often this term.

But some of the foundations that the club need are definitely now in place ahead of the summer. And some of the players whose futures are in a little doubt will know that they have something to prove in the coming weeks if they want to stick around.
