Glasgow Rangers star Josh Windass could benefit in a big way if Steven Gerrard arrives at Ibrox.

Rangers playmaker Josh Windass might have been slightly more disappointed than most to see Graeme Murty leave Ibrox this week.

The 43-year-old prematurely stepped down from his role as Rangers manager, though he was never expected to last beyond this season regardless.

Nevertheless, he clearly did wonders for Windass, who had one goal under Pedro Caixinha when the Portuguese was sacked in October, but now has 17 in all competitions.

Murty transformed the Englishman from an average winger into a fine number 10 – and Steven Gerrard could make him even better.

The Liverpool icon is expected to take the reins at Ibrox soon and you have to imagine that the 37-year-old could potentially take Windass’s game to another level entirely.

Gerrard was a deep-lying playmaker at the time of his departure from Anfield in 2015, but he did spend many years in an advanced midfield role and there is no telling how much Windass could learn from him.

Rangers spent £60,000 [Lancashire Evening Post] on signing the 24-year-old from Accrington Stanley in 2016. He is already worth a hell of a lot more, but a year or two under Gerrard and his valuation could go through the roof.
