Rangers are looking to keep Steven Davis at Ibrox.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told The Sunday World (14/04, p58) that he thinks Steven Davis will be a Gers player next season.
Gerrard lured Davis back to Ibrox in January, securing a deal to take him on loan from Southampton until the end of the campaign.
The 34-year-old had struggled for first-team football at Southampton this season, and a move back to Rangers – nearly seven years since leaving – represented the ideal chance to go out and play games.
His early form wasn’t great; he looked like an ageing player who hasn’t played much football this season, which was always the gamble when Rangers signed him.
However, Davis is now looking fitter and sharper, producing more promising performances as he beings to get back to his best in a Rangers shirt.
His future will still be up for discussion, as his Southampton contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he is just weeks away from becoming a free agent.
There has been no word on whether Davis will be staying, but boss Gerrard has now revealed that he thinks Davis will be signing this summer to ensure he’s a Rangers player next season, even though he can’t confirm such a deal right now.
“I think he will be here next season,” said Gerrard. “At this moment, we cannot confirm he will be here, but I want a fit and hungry Steven Davis in my squad,” he added.
