Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted to Rangers TV that he didn’t want to play Alfredo Morelos last night.

Rangers picked up a 4-0 win over Ayr, with Morelos finding the back of the net in the contest.

However, it was not all positive for Gerrard’s men, as Morelos picked up a booking in the contest.

The Colombian’s failure to stay out of the referee’s notebook, means that Rangers will now be without him for the semi-final, as he is suspended.

Rangers could be short of options up-front against Aberdeen now, and Gerrard admits he would have liked to be able to rest Morelos last night.

“Not having Lafferty available, I had no choice but to play Alfredo,” Gerrard said.

“In different circumstances I’d have rested him as well. He wanted to play though, and I thought he was unlucky to get the yellow card.”

Without Morelos, Eros Grezda looks most likely to start as a striker for Rangers in their semi-final against Aberdeen.

Grezda came on up-front for Rangers last night in the second half and he looked promising when he did make his way on to the pitch.
