Steven Fletcher wants Sheffield Wednesday to sign Chelsea’s Michael Hector permanently

Hector has never made a Premier League appearance for Chelsea but has impressed in the Championship with Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday.

Steven Fletcher has implored Sheffield Wednesday to sign Michael Hector on a permanent basis at the end of the season, speaking to The Star.

The Jamaica international is on loan at Hillsborough from Premier League powerhouses Chelsea and has formed an impressive partnership with the experienced Tom Lees at the heart of Steve Bruce’s backline.

Hector produced arguably the most impressive of his 26 Championship appearances in Monday’s Steel City derby, helping Wednesday keep a clean sheet against bitter rivals United.

And, speaking to The Star, Owls forward Fletcher has admitted that he’d love to see the 26-year-old stay at Hillsborough beyond this summer.

“He has been brilliant. He has fitted in fantastic on and off the pitch,” said the former Wolves and Sunderland forward.

“He is a bit of a character and we have to keep him in check sometimes! He loves his social media. He is a bit of a joker but he is a great lad.

“On the pitch he has been fantastic for us so hopefully we can keep him.”

Goal reported in February that Chelsea are keen to reduce the amount of players they have out on loan in the summer with the likes of Victor Moses, Mario Pasalic and Ola Aina expected to be sold.

So this should give Wednesday hope that a permanent deal for Hector can be struck. He hasn’t come close to a Premier League appearance for Chelsea and it seems unlikely that he is part of Maurizio Sarri’s long-term plans.
