Sheffield Wednesday striker Steven Fletcher has admitted to the Sheffield Star that he has been frustrated at being left out of Carlos Carvalhal’s team in 2017.

Fletcher has only recently forced his way back into Wednesday’s starting line-up, after a long time on the sidelines.

The Scotland international was generally utilised as a substitute by Carvalhal, with Jordan Rhodes’ arrival seemingly knocking him out of starting contention.

However, after scoring three goals in his last two matches, Fletcher is delighted to be back involved again.

“It is obviously frustrating for any player as you want to start games but I kept working hard in training,” said the . “I didn’t let it affect me.

“It is nice to be starting again. “It has been frustrating but I’m glad I’m back. I have come back in and done what I get paid to do which is score goals.”

Fletcher’s last goal came against Newcastle United last weekend, and it was hugely important.

The 30-year-old set Wednesday on their way to a victory against the Championship leaders, which helped strengthen their position in the play offs.

Fletcher now looks likely to retain his place in Wednesday’s starting line-up for their next match, which comes against Cardiff City on Friday evening.

If the Owls are able to win, they could put five points between themselves and seventh placed Fulham.
