Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have snapped up Steven Davis on loan from Southampton to strengthen Steven Gerrard’s midfield options.

Glasgow Rangers loan signing Steven Davis has suggested to Sky Sports that he wants to be at Ibrox next season.

Davis has joined Rangers on a temporary basis from Southampton until the end of the current campaign, and he is expected to improve Steven Gerrard’s midfield options in the coming months.

The experienced midfielder now has his eyes on a long-term stay at Ibrox, and insists that he is hoping to stick around with the Glasgow side after his loan deal expires.

“Hopefully beyond the six months everything will go well and then we can look at things and make it a longer-term thing,” he said.

Rangers know all about Davis’ quality, as he spent four years at Ibrox prior to a move to Southampton in 2012.

Davis is now a more experienced player, but he could still have a lot to offer Rangers.

Gerrard has bemoaned his side’s lack of cutting edge in the final third at times this season, but Davis should help add to Rangers’ creativity.

The Northern Irish international will also add energy to Rangers’ midfield line-up and is expected to come straight into their starting line-up.

Rangers are next in action in just over a week’s time, when they take on Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup.
