Southampton midfielder Steven Davis has told The Scottish Herald that he thinks Rangers are ‘back in a good position’ ahead of this weekend’s game against Celtic.
All eyes will be on Glasgow on Saturday afternoon as Celtic host Rangers at Celtic Park, with the two sides playing an Old Firm derby in the league for the first time since 2012.
Rangers have been fighting back up the divisions since their financial collapse four years ago, and are now hoping to build on April’s Scottish Cup win over Celtic by beating them in the league this weekend.

It’s been a long road back to the top for Rangers, and one player who left the club in 2012 is Southampton star Steven Davis.
The Northern Ireland international, now 31, made over 200 appearances for Rangers having signed from Fulham in 2007, and scored 22 goals as he became a fan favourite at Ibrox.

Now starring with Southampton in the Premier League, Davis has taken time to look ahead to this weekend’s huge Old Firm clash as his former side take on their bitter rivals Celtic.
Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, Davis admitted that he’s missed being able to watch Celtic and Rangers lock horns, and thinks the game is ‘huge’ for Scottish football as a whole.
Davis added that he thinks Rangers are in a good position now after years of uncertainty, and believes there is a lot of positivity around the club heading into this weekend’s game.

“For me there is no better game to play in, you want to play in intense games when the atmosphere is electric and that’s definitely what the Old Firm is,” said Davis. “I’ve missed watching it consistently as a fan over the last few years, I managed to play in it numerous times and had some positive and some negative results. There is no better feeling walking off a pitch having won a game against your biggest rivals.”
“It’s huge for Scottish football, it’s been missed and you’ll see what it brings. With the attention it brings as well, that can only be a positive thing. Rangers are back in a good position, they’re moving forward and there is a lot of positivity around the club. I think everyone is looking forward to the game on Saturday and I’m no different,” he added.
