Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has given a big indication he’s set to extend his stay at Ibrox beyond this season, The Scottish Sun report.

The veteran Northern Ireland international signed for the club on a permanent basis during the summer transfer window after an initial loan from Southampton.

With his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2019/20 season and his advancing years, it hasn’t been a guarantee he’ll continue on at the Gers.

However, the player himself seems keen on that idea, responding to Steven Gerrard’s suggestion he’ll be offered another contract along with others such as Allan McGregor and Jermain Defoe.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Davis said: “We haven’t spoken about anything just yet, but I think you can see I’m enjoying my football.

“That’s why I’m playing the way I am, and the team is performing well too.

“I haven’t given it too much thought but if those talks do happen it’ll be done quite easily, I’m sure.”

Would it be a wise Rangers move?

Given he is now 34, no decision to offer Davis a new contract should be taken lightly. However, you can’t argue that his performances this season haven’t been up to scratch.

He’s been a crucial component of Gerrard’s midfield, playing in all but one of their Scottish Premiership matches and starting every Europa League group stage match.

Steven Davis of Rangers FC looks on during the UEFA Europa League group G match between BSC Young Boys and Rangers FC at Stade de Suisse, Wankdorf on October 3, 2019 in Bern, Switzerland.

The Rangers boss clearly relies on his experience to guide the team through big encounters. The veteran has been to a European final with the Ibrox club and won multiple trophies already. You can’t find that kind of experience cheaply on the transfer market.

If he’s still performing well towards the end of the season then handing him a new contract is a must for the Gers.
