Glasgow Rangers loanee Steven Davis returned to the starting lineup at Ibrox at the weekend.
With Rangers now four games without a win, Steven Gerrard may be struggling to find too many positives that he can cling onto heading into the international break.
In truth, the Gers need to win both remaining Old Firm games to stand a chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title after the league leaders were able to extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.
Rangers opened the door for the gap to reach double figures by drawing 1-1 at home to Kilmarnock on Saturday. It was another uninspiring performance from the Gers, and Gerrard seems to be coming in for the kind of scrutiny he would have hoped to avoid during his first season with the club.
But if there was one positive that Rangers could take from the game, it is surely the performance of Steven Davis, who returned to the starting lineup for the first time in a month on Saturday.
The Northern Ireland international looked much more like the player that Gerrard was hoping he had signed during the January transfer window. He has not had the easiest time since returning to Rangers earlier this year, but his display at Ibrox suggested that he has turned a corner.
He was much more influential. And if any midfielder was going to provide the spark that the Gers needed, it looked set to be the 34-year-old.
With his loan deal only currently set to run until the summer (via Rangers’ official website), some may have had their doubts regarding whether Davis would actually do enough to earn a prolonged stay at Ibrox.
There is still some way to go before he manages to win all of his doubters over perhaps, but he is definitely on the right track if Saturday is a sign of what is to come.
