Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has admitted to The Scottish Sun that his loan spell at Ibrox from Southampton has not been as expected.

Davis joined Rangers on loan from Premier League club Southampton in the January transfer window.

The 34-year-old midfielder is in his second spell at Rangers, having been on the books of the Gers from 2008 until 2012 following a loan spell at Ibrox from Aston Villa.

Rangers midfielder Davis has suggested that he thought that he would hit the ground running at Ibrox when he joined Steven Gerrard’s side on loan from Southampton in January.

Davis told The Scottish Sun: “I thought to myself I would just hit the ground running, and it would be like the last time around.

“But taking everything into consideration you have to be honest with yourself as well in terms of where you are at.

“Other than internationals I haven’t played a lot of football since last February with injuries at the back end of last season. I didn’t have much game-time at Southampton in the first half of this season.

“Getting some minutes under my belt has helped. I’m feeling a lot more like myself now.”

Expectations

Davis is a very good midfielder who was a success during his first spell at Rangers, but things are not going to plan for the Southampton-owned star.

The 34-year-old Northern Ireland international has made three starts and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for the Gers, according to WhoScored.

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 55 points from 27 matches, as many as eight points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Steven Davis of Rangers arrives prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Livingston and Rangers at Tony Macaroni Arena on January 27, 2019 in Livingston, United Kingdom.
