Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Steven Davis back to Ibrox in January.

In comments reported by the Daily Echo, Steven Davis has insisted that he is not thinking about his contract situation amid reports that he could be on the way back to Rangers in the near future.

Davis is into the final year of his deal at Southampton and will soon be able to enter talks with non-English clubs. That has seemingly alerted Rangers, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Steven Gerrard wishes to bring the 33-year-old back to Ibrox.

The Scottish Sun added that Ralph Hasenhuttl is ready to let the midfielder leave in January on a free transfer. But Davis – who earns £60,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has insisted that he is not currently thinking about leaving the Saints right now.

“I haven’t genuinely given it much thought,” he said, as reported by the Daily Echo, when asked about his contract situation.

“It’s probably the first time I have come into the last year of my contract, but my focus is just getting us out of this situation as quickly as possible.

“Having been here so long and feeling that responsibility, I want to see the club doing well.”

It has been a poor start to the season for Southampton. They have struggled to turn draws into wins and find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone.

Hasenhuttl’s appointment has given the club fresh optimism, and some supporters will be hoping that he has his eye on some January targets who can help ensure that they move themselves away from the bottom three.

And if Southampton do manage to enjoy a busy window, Rangers supporters will be hoping that that will leave the path clear for Davis to make an emotional return to Ibrox in the near future.
