Steven Bergwijn has endured a tricky time at Tottenham and amid reports he could leave this summer, has fueled talk of a potential exit with a post on Snapchat. It comes after scoring a brace for the Netherlands on Saturday.
Bergwijn, 24, has started just eight of his 25 league and cup appearances for Tottenham this season – in which he has only scored three times. Two of those came in the dying moments against Leicester City to win 3-2.
But he remains some way down the pecking order, especially after the addition of the impressive Dejan Kulusevski. He was strongly linked with Ajax in the January window, while Gazzetta say Milan are interested.
Bergwijn netted twice in a 4-2 win against Denmark on Saturday, a friendly match in which Christian Eriksen also scored. He has since posted a on Snapchat, suggesting he does not feel valued under Antonio Conte at Spurs.
Bergwijn message: Tottenham need to sell, suits all parties involved
Ultimately, Spurs need cash in order to spend and satisfy the high demands of manager Conte. They also need to make room and cut some of the dead wood currently residing in North London. Bergwijn is one of those players.
While there is certainly potential in Bergwijn to be a player at Spurs, he is not getting the game time – nor showing the momentum needed. A move to Milan or Ajax gives Spurs cash, and Bergwijn the game time he craves.
