Sunderland youngster Bali Mumba could feature this evening, with Phil Parkinson’s side in action.
Mumba is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at Sunderland, with the 18-year-old already playing for the first-team on nine occasions throughout his career to date.
The youngster was initially spotted by Jack Ross, who wanted to give him a chance in the senior squad last term.
Mumba never really nailed down a place in Sunderland’s line-up, but he showed enough to suggest that he could have a bright future on Wearside.
The midfielder has struggled for game time this season, but could be given the nod to start for Sunderland this evening, when they take on Grimsby Town in the Football League Trophy.
And Parkin has suggested that he has seen enough from Mumba to suggest he has the talent to make a big impact.
“I’ve got to say that when he’s trained with me, he’s been great,” Parkin said. “He’s been really good. Technically, he can handle the ball, and he is sharp and bright. Obviously, I’ve not seen him play, eyes on, in a match as yet, and I’m looking forward to that, but he seems a good player and a nice kid.”
Sunderland have had mixed success in the EFL Trophy so far this season, with one win and one loss in the competition to date.
If the Black Cats can beat Scunthorpe later it would secure their progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
