Steve Parish has been speaking to Palace TV after Crystal Palace completed the £14m signing of Odsonne Edouard on deadline day.

The Eagles Chairman gave the window a 9/10, as the south Londoners also added Michael Olise, Marc Guéhi, Joachim Andersen, Will Hughes and Conor Gallagher to their squad.

However, Parish admitted that there was one more deal he wanted to do.

What did Steve Parish say?

Speaking to Palace TV, Parish said: “I think there’s maybe one other thing that we might have liked to get done. But as the manager quite rightly said when we couldn’t get that done: Let’s not get something else done for the sake of it, because we have good players here and we’ve got good players coming back.”

Now, we bet Parish was pleased to hear that from Patrick Vieira.

It shows the Frenchman has a confidence in his squad, as well as his own managerial ability, and wasn’t keen to make signings for the sake of it.

In Parish’s case – the man who writes the cheques – we’re sure he was also pleased to hear this from a financial sense.

He handed Vieira £60.9m to work with this summer, and presumably wouldn’t have wanted to spend much more amid a global pandemic.

Crystal Palace’s squad now looks very, very exciting

What a transformation Crystal Palace have had.

Vieira has effectively swapped Connor Wickham with Edouard and Andros Townsend with Olise.

He’s also seen two young centre-backs arrive in place of ageing, injury prone options like Mamadou Sakho and Scott Dann.

Also, players such as Hughes should not go unnoticed.

Amid the excitement of Gallagher, Olise and Edouard, it’s easy to forget that the ex-Derby midfielder is a fine player who’s in his prime years at 26.

It’s a seriously exciting time for the south Londoners.

Now, it’s over to Vieira to ensure his new signings gel quickly and get results out on the pitch – only time will tell if he’s the man to make it click.
