Liverpool great Steve Nicol has tipped former Red Kolo Toure to be a success during his time with Celtic, and suggested that his presence will have a positive impact on the rest of the squad, the Evening Times reports.

The 35-year-old left Anfield at the end of last season, but was not out of football for long as former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers offered him a chance to join the Hoops.

And while some may have felt that Toure’s move to Celtic would allow the veteran to wind down, Nicol has explained why he is already convinced that the centre-back does not see the move that way, before suggesting the impact that he can have on those working closely with him at Parkhead.

“Kolo is going to be great in the Scottish Premiership,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times. “Talk about experience! The fact that he made that run forward in the first leg of the play-off against Hapoel with the ball at his feet to set up a goal tells you he is in great shape physically.

“I had to look twice to make sure it was him! But even if he didn’t have the legs he has got the experience and he has got the brain. He is going to be good for everybody else around him.”

While some members of Celtic’s defence boasts international experience, the likes of Erik Sviatchenko, Mikael Lustig and Jozo Simunovic – who has played at various youth levels for the Croatian youth team – could still learn a tremendous amount from the two-time Premier League winner.

And with Kieran Tierney and Eoghan O’Connell still very much developing and learning their trade, Toure’s influence could go a long way to helping the pair – as well as any other starlets coming through the ranks – realise their potential in the future.
