Divock Origi is a hugely popular player among Liverpool fans right now.

Steve Nicol has told ESPN that he doesn’t even believe that Divock Origi should be a squad player at Liverpool.
The resurgent Belgium striker scored the Reds’ fourth goal as Jurgen Klopp’s side kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 4-1 win over Norwich City at Anfield last night.
Origi made a darting run into the box to nod home a beautiful cross from Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, picking up where he left off from last season.
The 24-year-old had a sublime end to the 2018-19 campaign, scoring twice in that 4-0 win over Barcelona, before grabbing the second in a 2-0 Champions League final win over Tottenham.
Those heroics led to him signing a new contract at Melwood last month, but Liverpool legend Nicol suggests that he isn’t good enough.
He told ESPN: “If you’re relying on Origi to play week in week out you’re not going to win the Premier League title or compete with Manchester City.
“How far down would he actually get a game for someone in the Premier League? He’s a squad player – I just want Liverpool to have better squad players than him.”
It’s a crazy opinion by Nicol. Origi has most definitely earned the right to stay at Liverpool this season.
He hasn’t been a roaring success at the club overall, having joined in 2014, but the proof is in the pudding and right now he is an important player for Klopp.
Origi isn’t going to play every week. Nicol’s right in saying that he is a squad player, but if your squad player is wiley enough to get goals in the semi-final and final of the Champions League then that isn’t too shabby.
