Newcastle have been linked with a move for Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron.
Steve Nicol has told ESPN that he would not be surprised if Newcastle United have already completed a deal to sign Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old Paraguay international, though Arsenal and West Ham United are also said to be interested in Atlanta’s number 10.
Atlanta president Darren Eales told the Mirror this week that he would only sell him for a fee of £30million or above, and the former Spurs director claimed Almiron reminded him of Gareth Bale during the Welshman’s Spurs stint.
Former Liverpool star and transfer expert Nicol reckons Newcastle are going to sign Almiron and claims he would be surprised if a deal has not already been completed – but he is unsure over whether Almiron will fit into The Toon’s style.
“i’d be shocked if this is not already, pretty much done,” Nicol said. “In some ways, Newcastle is right but it is also wrong for Almiron. He’s going to play and that’s the biggest thing for a young player going to any top team.
“But will he get any service? Will his game fit in with how Newcastle go about it? I’m not so sure. I think this will happen. But it’s tough and go whether he will be a success, just because of the way Newcastle play.”
Almiron was in explosive form for Atlanta during the 2018 season, helping his side lift the MLS Cup after starring in 38 outings – scoring 13 goals and creating the same amount in assists.
He has a contract with the newly-founded MLS side until December 2020, but he has stated his desire to move to Europe.
