Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has told ESPN that reported Tottenham Hotspur target Munir El Haddadi should leave Barcelona before the end of the summer transfer window.

Munir has been linked with a move to Premier League club Tottenham this month.

According to The Daily Mail, Spurs have asked Barcelona about the 20-year-old forward.

Premier League rivals Stoke City and Everton have also reportedly made enquiries about the Spain international, who is said to be rated at around £13 million.

Former Liverpool defender Nicol has said that Munir should leave Barcelona in order to play regularly.

The former Scotland international, who won the European Cup with the Reds in 1984, believes that the youngster would be a good signing for Tottenham.

“Well, he certainly gives Spurs options going forward,” Nicol told ESPN about Munir. “Again, for the player himself, he needs to get away from Barcelona. He is not going to play if everybody is fit. That front three, you can’t move them.”

“Well, I think it would be interesting,” said Nicol when asked if Munir would play at Spurs. “A front three with Kane, with El Haddadi on one side and Lamela on the other, I think it’s quite an interesting prospect.”

Munir has been on the books of Barcelona since 2011 and is a very promising young forward.

However, the Spaniard has had limited playing time for the first team so far, largely due to the fact that Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar are Barca’s established front-three.

The 20-year-old scored three goals and created nine chances in 15 La Liga appearances for Barcelona last season.
