Everton appear to be closing in on Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City.
Steve Nicol has told ESPN that he believes Everton will wind up signing Gylfi Sigurdsson before the transfer window closes.
The Swansea City playmaker has been the subject of arguably the transfer saga in English football so far, with Everton having two bids – including one for £45 million – turned down.
According to Wales Online, the Swans want £50 million for him but it seems likely that the Toffees will meet City’s valuation and finally get their man.
Sigurdsson did not travel on the club’s tour of the United States, but did take part in training on Wednesday, though Nicol, speaking to ESPN, believes it’s only a matter of time before he ends up at Goodison Park.
He told ESPN: “Right, let’s go for a hit. This is just a matter of time, a matter of them figuring out what the price is. He hasn’t gone on tour with Swansea. This is happening, between now and the end of the transfer window some time. This is a hit.”
Everton have already spent in excess of £100 million on transfers this summer, but adding Sigurdsson to their ranks would boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in a big way.
The 27-year-old is a class act, having scored nine goals and set up 13 last season in the Premier League last season, and Koeman will be delighted to get him, if he does.
