Newcastle United are said to be keen on signing the Huddersfield Town striker this summer.

Rafael Benitez had been pushing to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Rondon on a permanent deal during his time at St. James’ Park, but Mike Ashley wouldn’t sanction the transfer.
Newcastle felt that Rondon was too old, and it seems that they have now started searching for other strikers.
TeamTalk claim that Mounie has been scouted as a potential option, but if Newcastle do bring in the Huddersfield man they will be less of a threat than last season.
Rondon scooped Newcastle’s Player of the Year award during the previous campaign, and Mounie just doesn’t have the ability to fill the void that the Venezuelan has left.
Mounie scored just two goals in the Premier League for Huddersfield last term, and looked very goal shy.
Admittedly Huddersfield were one of the most defensive teams in the division, but Mounie hardly looked clinical in front goal.

He was outscored by Karlan Grant, who only joined in January and was making the step up from League One.
And if Newcastle replace the brilliant Rondon with Mounie then it will be all too clear why Benitez was bemoaning the Magpies’ lack of ambition after his exit.
