Steve Morison played a starring role in Leeds United’s defeat on Saturday, and he certainly managed to wind up a large number of the Elland Road faithful.
In comments reported by Leeds Live, Steve Morison has admitted that he can understand why the Leeds fans were so frustrated with him at the weekend – as he never managed to put in the kind of performance that helped inspired Millwall to victory during his time as a Whites player.
Morison endured a fairly miserable time at Elland Road. Having arrived as part of the deal that saw cult-hero Luciano Becchio leave for Norwich City, the forward never managed to fill the Argentinian’s boots and left for Millwall in 2015 having scored just five goals in 41 Championship appearances for Leeds.
Unfortunately for Thomas Christiansen however, the 34-year-old came back to haunt his old club at the weekend as he provided three assists as the Lions left Elland Road with a dramatic 4-3 win. And he did little to endear himself to the Leeds supporters by making sure that they were aware what every Millwall goal against his old side meant to him. Unsurprisingly, the reception he received was not a warm one.
And after the game, he suggested that he can understand why the fans were hostile, but seemed to hint that it was down to his performance rather than the way that he celebrated the visitors’ goals.
“I thought I played well and it’s a shame the Leeds fans never got to see me play like that as I was crap when I played here! That’s what I can do but I never did it for them so I can understand their frustration towards me.
“It was pantomime stuff today and I got a couple of good assists. I was getting plenty of stick and they never like it when it’s turned on its head do they?”
Leeds will have to wait a while before they get the chance to end their five-game run without a win as their next game comes next Tuesday when they travel to Hull City.
