Everton were beaten 3-2 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
Steve McManaman has told BT Sport that Everton looked ‘slow and passive’ against Chelsea, after Ronald Koeman’s side were battered at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
Everton went into the game against Chelsea with the second best defensive record in the Premier League.
However, the Toffees could not deal with Chelsea – as the London side tore them open seemingly at will.
Chelsea created chance after chance against Everton, with Koeman’s side’s defence folding too easily.
And McManaman felt that Chelsea looked fitter and sharper than Everton did throughout the contest.
“You just get one of those days where everything you try doesn’t come off,” the former Liverpool player said. “They looked slow and passive. I don’t want to say unfit, but Chelsea looked fitter and quicker than them. It was a disastrous display.”
Chelsea quickly raced into a 2-0 lead against Everton as a quick-fire goals from Eden Hazard and Marcus Alonso and they never let up after that.
Antonio Conte’s men added a third through Diego Costa, before Hazard got on the scoresheet again and Pedro completed the triumph.
Everton remain in sixth place in the Premier League table after the defeat at Stamford Bridge, and return to action after the international break with a match against Swansea City.
