The Gunners fans questioned the decision to leave the Switzerland midfielder on the bench against Hull City.

Steve McManaman has questioned Arsenal fans complaining about the absence of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez on Saturday, speaking to BT Sport.

The Gunners moved up to third place in the Premier League this weekend as they beat Hull City 4-1 at the KCOM Stadium.

It was a solid performance from Arsene Wenger’s side as goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Granit Xhaka saw them to victory.

Arsenal fans ignored the display following the game, though, instead choosing to focus on the decision to leave Xhaka sitting on the bench once again.

McManaman has questioned that, though, asking why they were being negative after a good week for their club.

“I get the fact that Arsene Wenger frustrates a lot of the Arsenal fans,” he told BT Sport.

“But when they’ve won at home against Southampton, get a good result against Paris Saint-Germain and then win 4-1 away from home, why be negative?”

A look at the stats from the game shows that Wenger was more than justified to leave Xhaka on the bench for Coquelin anyway.

The Frenchman put in an impressive performance in the centre of the park, posting 117 touches, 96 accurate passes, and seven ball recoveries.

That kind of performance is likely to have impressed Wenger and not only did it justify his selection but it will also make the Gunners boss keen to stick with him for the time being.
