Steve McManaman has hailed Aston Villa’s transfer business this summer, when talking live on Premier League productions.
Villa have made an extremely bright start to the campaign, and dispatched with Arsenal comfortably on their latest outing.
Dean Smith’s side currently occupy sixth spot, which represents a vast improvement from last season when they spent most the campaign battling against the drop.
And McManaman feels that Villa deserve a huge amount of credit, as they pulled off four brilliant pieces of business.
“We’ve all had a go at Aston Villa in the past about their signings in the past, with random players coming in and out,” McManaman said.
“But they deserve a whole lot of credit this year. Ross Barkley on loan is brilliant, the goalkeeper – brilliant.
“Matty Cash coming in at right-back, less of a big name, and then they buy the centre-forward.
“That spine of the time has instantly become stronger, youngster and more agile. It’s just enhanced their team.”
Barkley was arguably the most surprising of all of Villa’s additions, and his quality has already shone through.
The Chelsea loanee has struck up a great partnership with Jack Grealish, and he seems to be thriving after being trusted with a key position in the team.
Villa’s summer spending has effectively strengthen them in every area of their squad though, and they are now reaping the benefits.
There is now huge optimism forming around Villa Park, with their next game set to come against Brighton & Hove Albion after the international break.
