The Arsenal midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past.

Steve McMahon has told Sky Sports that he would like to see former club Liverpool sign Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

According to Sky Sports News, the 27-year-old will leave Arsenal for free next summer after being told in person that he will not be offered a new contract.

The Mirror reported a month ago that the Wales international was keen to join Liverpool, with the Reds said to be leading the race for his signature.

Ramsey netted seven Premier League goals for the Gunners last season – more than any Liverpool midfielder.

And McMahon, who spent six years at Anfield, reckons that Jurgen Klopp needs someone of Ramsey’s talents.

He told Sky Sports: “Liverpool would do well in getting Ramsey, a midfield player who goes beyond the strikers. Liverpool haven’t got that. He’s a goalscoring midfield player with great technique.

“I’ve watched them every game this year and they still need an offensive midfield player, someone who will take that chance.”

Asked who’d Ramsey replace at Liverpool, McMahon added: “Lallana. There’s a place there that says he’s better than Lallana.”

McMahon might well have a point. Ramsey netted 10 Premier League goals during the 2013-14 campaign for Arsenal – the same amount as Sadio Mane last season.

He clearly knows where the goal is and Klopp hasn’t had a player of that ilk since Philippe Coutinho left.

Considering Ramsey – on £110,000 per week in North London [Total Sportek] – could be available on a free transfer come May, it’d be an absolute bargain for Liverpool.
