Leeds United could appoint Steve McClaren as manager.
Steve McClaren is the shock favourite with SkyBet to become the next Leeds United manager.
Leeds fired Thomas Christiansen last night after a run of seven games without a victory.
Steve McClaren was at Elland Road on Saturday, according to The Mirror.
McClaren has not had a managerial job since being sacked by Derby County last season, and has been working as a consultant for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
He was studying on a sports directorship course last year with a view to becoming a director of football, but this is no longer his aspiration.
Speaking to The Times last week, McClaren made very clear he was keen on a return to management.
McClaren said: “I’m open to anything. It doesn’t matter where you work — Europe, England, Scotland, Wales . . . I just want the opportunity to manage again.”
The former England boss lives in Yorkshire and taking over at Leeds would certainly be convenient for him.
However McClaren’s chequered career means his appointment is unlikely to be received well.
McClaren’s record in English football can be described as average at best, having failed to win promotion twice with Derby County and failed, his appointment at Newcastle led to their relegation.
His comments last week could prove an ominous sign for Leeds fans.
