Queens Park Rangers take on Bristol Rovers in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening with Steve McClaren expected to make changes.

The QPR manager oversaw his first league win against Wigan Athletic and much has been made of the arrivals of Tomer Hemed and Nahki Wells.

Hemed starred in the 1-0 win and managed to score the games only goal in the first-half. Wells played okay but given time and a run of games, the duo will come good.

With that in mind, it would make perfect sense for McClaren to at least give Hemed and Wells the opening 45 minutes together. With a trip to Birmingham City in mind, why not give them important time on the pitch.

Rovers have started their League One campaign poorly and if Wells or Hemed were to start, it would restore further confidence if either could score a goal or two. The game won’t be easy but both strikers will want to make an impact.

Conor Washington played very well in the first round success over Peterborough United and McClaren will be pondering whether to start him. Although, the Northern Irish forward has struggled generally in his time at Rangers he could be more useful coming off the bench.

The midfield and defence are expected to face the odd change with Pawel Wzsolek and Osman Kakay vying for a spot but if McClaren wants to secure his third win as QPR boss, continuing with his strongest strikers is a must.

The R’s have a poor cup record of late and if they want to avoid their first defeat to Rovers since 1971, McClaren must go for the juggelar and play Wells and Hemed from the off.
