Derby County striker Matej Vydra has the faith of Steve McClaren.
New Derby County manager Steve McClaren has told the club’s official website that he views Matej Vydra as the future of the football club.
McClaren was speaking after dropping Vydra to the bench for the weekend’s win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Veteran striker Darren Bent was picked up front instead, although did not find the scoresheet in the 2-0 win with Cyrus Christie and Alex Pearce on target.
McClaren said the selection decision was not an easy one, and offered assurances that Vydra is very much part of his plans.
He said: “Darren Bent came in and led the line well. It was a tough decision to leave Matěj Vydra out; he has great qualities and is the future of this club.
“We felt that we needed something different in the game and Benty offered that.”

Vydra has struggled in front of goal this season after arriving for a big fee, netting just twice in nine Championship matches.
Fortunately Derby do have a player in Bent who can step in and take Vydra out of the firing line, and it is up to him to react positively.

McClaren’s words should gee him up and ease any worries Vydra has, and when he gets back in the starting line-up, the striker should be fired up to prove why he deserved to start in the first place.
