Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is chasing another Premier League record against Swansea City.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane was head and shoulders above every other Premier League striker in 2017.
The 24-year-old recently set a new Premier League high for goals in a calendar year with 39 – surpassing the 22-year record previously held by the division’s all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer.
In the long term, Kane has his eyes on Shearer’s career tally of 260 Premier League goals, but he can break another record as soon as Tuesday evening when Tottenham travel to Swansea City.
The England international is looking to become the first Premier League player ever to score three successive hat-tricks, after hitting trebles against Burnley and Southampton before the New Year.
Kane has many attributes which make him the country’s best striker – his ruthless finishing, his work rate and his consistency to name just a few, but former England manager Steve McClaren believes that it is his composure which puts Kane “way above everyone else”.
McClaren told Sky Sports: “To score that amount of goals, phenomenally talented player that has an eye for goal and a composure – I think that is the key thing in every situation – the composure that he shows to score is way above everybody else – last year and this year.”
Kane’s third goal against Southampton on Boxing Day was evidence of such skill as he took his time and feigned a shot before deftly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
He has also proven to be calm and clinical from the penalty spot – when it is essential that a striker keeps their composure – scoring 15 of his last 16 for Spurs in all competitions.
