Steve McClaren has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Aston Villa’s match with Bolton Wanderers, that Steve Bruce’s side need to learn from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves are currently leading the way in the Championship, and one of the reasons for this has been their consistency.

Wolves lost to Villa recently, as their place at the top of the table came under threat, but they have quickly bounced back.

Wolves have won their last two matches comfortable, to strengthen their promotion bid.

Villa, meanwhile, have struggled in recent weeks after their success against their Midlands rivals.

The claret and blues were beaten 3-1 by Queens Park Rangers in a shock defeat last weekend, and then lost 1-0 to Bolton Wanderers.

Villa now look likely to have to settle for a play off spot, and McClaren feels that Bruce’s side need to learn from Wolves.

“What you have to do when you’re in the top six is hold your nerve,” the former England boss said. “If you get beaten, hold on to the next one. Wolves get beat, but they don’t get beaten again. What Villa have done this week is prove what the rest of the division are doing – they’re getting beaten and making it two.”

Villa are now 13 points behind Wolves and seven points away from automatic promotion, and they have slipped down to fourth place in the Championship table.
