Southampton’s Charlie Austin scores their second goal
Southampton striker Charlie Austin has been in good form recently, much to the South-Coast club’s benefit.
Now former Newcastle United and England boss Steve McClaren has commented on the player’s good form and potential England chances on Sky Sports Fantasy Football Club.
Austin has managed to win himself a place in the Southampton first-team of late, with five goals in his last four games for the club.

That form has seen him mentioned as a potential candidate for Gareth Southgate’s England squad this month.
McClaren, who worked with Austin briefly at QPR, believes he has a shot of making the England team – and admitted his attempts to sign him in the winter, telling Sky Sports:
“I worked with him for three months at QPR, fantastic, a great kid, and a goal scorer.
“Someone who, when I was at Newcastle, I tried to get him there. But Southampton have got him. He’s back in the team, scoring a couple of goals. Who knows?”
Newcastle’s interest in Austin was well reported in the winter but with the club frantically battling relegation Austin would have been taking a risk moving so far from home to join the Toon.

In the end he joined Southampton and initially struggled to adapt to the demands at his new club.
But after a healthy summer, which has seen Austin become leaner and meaner, he appears to be finally kicking into gear at St Mary’s.
