Matej Vydra has scored two goals in 16 matches for Derby County.
Steve McClaren has told Derby County’s official website that he believes Matej Vydra can become a dangerous player for his side.
Vydra was brought to Derby from Watford last summer by previous Rams boss Nigel Pearson, but the Czech Republic international has not had the desired impact so far.
Vydra has scored just twice in 16 appearances for Derby, and has been used mainly as a substitute since Steve McClaren took charge.
The 24-year-old came off the bench in Derby’s most recent match against Rotherham United, which they won 3-0.
Vydra put a decent chance wide in the closing stages of the match, and McClaren feels that the striker needs to get a goal to help him get his confidence back.
“Matej Vydra came on at the weekend and created some havoc,” the former England manager said.
“Once he gets a goal he will be very, very dangerous for us.”
Vydra has previously been a prolific scorer at Championship level, but he has struggled in the last two seasons.
The rapid forward scored just three times on a loan spell with Reading last term, and his form has not been much better since moving to the iPro Stadium.
At the moment Vydra is being kept out of the Derby team by Darren Bent, with the experienced striker hitting a fine run of form.
Derby are currently in 12th place in the Championship table, with their next match coming against an out-of-form Norwich City side.
