Things aren’t getting any easier for Jonathan Kuminga at the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors kept him out of the lineup once again in their game against the Portland Trail Blazers, marking his third straight DNP.
Kuminga’s last appearance came on December 6 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he managed just 4 points over 21 minutes.
He signed a two-year contract extension with Golden State before this season worth $22.5 million annually and includes a team option for next year. Kuminga is not eligible to be traded until January 15, 2026.
Steve Kerr shares thoughts on the Golden State Warriors’ relationship with Jonathan Kuminga

Kuminga hasn’t picked up an injury, but he’s still found himself out of the lineup for three games running now.
Before his benching, he had a run of three games without reaching double figures in points, and his shooting numbers during that spell were well below his usual standards.
It’s starting to look like Golden State is simply biding their time until Kuminga becomes trade eligible before making any moves.
Kerr also addressed suggestions from some fans that there might be a personal issue between Kuminga and the team.
“That couldn’t be farther from the truth. We treat all our players with the utmost dignity and respect. All we try to do is win,” Kerr said, via Jason Dumas of Kron4News.
“I talked about this publicly, I don’t think it’s a secret, it has been a tricky fit at times. He’s a really talented player and he’s had some really good moments and then there’s been times where it hasn’t clicked.”
Kerr added that recent changes were about finding better rhythm for the team rather than any personal reasons related to Kuminga.
What lies ahead for Jonathan Kuminga?
Kuminga’s benching and drop from the Warriors’ rotation has increased the likelihood of a trade once he becomes eligible on January 15.
The Sacramento Kings have already been mentioned as a possible destination, and the Chicago Bulls could also show interest in the new year.
The Warriors are in need of a centre, and adding another top-level player would help strengthen their squad as they move into the second half of the season.
It remains to be seen how they will use Kuminga in any potential deal to improve their lineup.
