Wolves fans ironically chanted the name of the Blackburn Rovers boss after their defeat at the weekend, leaving them caught in the relegation mire.
Going into the game level on points, both clubs had a perfect chance to cut themselves some slack.
Away side Blackburn were the ones to seize the moment, much to the disbelief of the home support.
Except they had seen it coming.
No matter what club owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey say, they appear to have monumentally mishandled the sacking of Mick McCarthy.
Starting off with the fact that sacking a manager in February is always a schoolboy error; transfer window closed and a missed opportunity, the whole saga was one exacerbated by panic.
Next up was the shambolic chase of several candidates. Morgan may state that the job was only offered to one man, Alan Curbishley, up to six, including Steve Bruce, Brian McDermott and Gus Poyet were all said to have been approached.
They had two weeks to find a successor and still could not do it, and then panicked again.
Appointing Terry Connor was always a big ask, and it seems to be backfiring. As Mick McCarthy’s assistant, they may as well have stuck with the former Ireland manager.
If they anticipated ending up with Connor in charge, surely they would not have sacked McCarthy.
‘Big Mick’ may have been taking them down, and if he had, fans would have asked why the board did not act, but no fan could have foreseen the calamitous circumstances which have gone on.
Wolves fans are describing themselves as a ‘comedy club’ embarrassed by the actions of their board, who they believe simply do not understand football, and have a top-heavy business first approach to the game.
All is not lost, but after losing their last two games by an aggregate of 7-0, the club have an almost impossible task against league leaders Manchester United up next.
Mick McCarthy won that fixture last year, and it says everything about Wolves’ predicament that supporters would rather have Steve Kean in charge than Terry Connor right now.
The fans were obviously being humourous, but I bet the majority would swap Connor for Kean in a heartbeat.
