It was a controversial game of football in which two Newcastle players were sent off. Jonjo Shelvey was dismissed in the 33rd minute, and Paul Dummett was sent off in first-half injury time.
Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow played well against the Reds, saving two penalties.
Former Newcastle defender Howey was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Darlow, who is 26 years of age, and of the Magpies.
