Steve Howey has suggested on social networking site Twitter that Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez could be given the funds to sign players between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

The former Newcastle defender made the claim on Twitter following the Magpies’ 3-2 extra-time defeat to Nottingham Forest at home on Wednesday evening.

The Magpies were expected to win the tie against the Championship club at St. James’ Park, and the fans must be bitterly disappointed with the final result.

Former 45-year-old Newcastle defender Howey, though, seems to have found a positive from the loss, suggesting that the result could now make club owner Mike Ashley spend some money and bring more players in.
